Oxidation/Reduction Part II

  1. In this assignment you will be using Diigo as a web highlighting tool. Make sure that you are logged into Diigo before you begin this activity.
  2. Use the Diigo toolbar to help you highlight and to post sticky notes for classmates to find information that you feel is most important about a website that defines and describes an oxidation/reduction reaction, oxidizing and reducing agent, and gives an example of an oxidation/reduction reaction.
  3. In a previous lesson you learned that processes of oxidation and reduction involve the transfer of electrons in a chemical reaction. In this assignment you must search for, at least, one other website that gives a definition of oxidation/reduction. (also called Redox Reactions). Also find a definition for the terms oxidizing agent and reducing agent. Finally give an example of an oxidation/reduction reaction. Important: Wikipedia is off limits. You may not use it as a resource.
  4. Make sure to scroll over the parts that you are highlighting, then right click on this section and click Bookmark and Highlight.
  5. Diigo_Bookmark_and_Highlight.JPG
  6. To get full credit for this assignment you must add this to the ChemCom Group page in Diigo. To do this you must slelect more options, check the groups button, and then select the ChemCom group. See the image below to help you.
  7. In this example you can see each step.
  8. Diigo_Bookmark_and_Highlight2.jpg
  9. Lastly you must create at least one sticky note on the page that you found. The sticky note should describe to another student how oxidation and reduction plays a role in the processing of metals and their ores. You may use any information provided on the website and/or the textbook.Remember to share the sticky note to the ChemCom Group. Otherwise, no one will be able to see it and it won't be very useful to others.
